The Essential Guide to Leather Care

The Essential Guide to Leather Care

Proper care transforms a leather garment from a seasonal purchase into a lifetime companion. Follow these guidelines from our master craftspeople.

Daily Maintenance

After each wear, allow your leather to breathe. Hang it on a wide, padded hanger away from direct heat or sunlight. Use a soft, dry cloth to gently remove any dust or surface dirt. Never use harsh chemicals or household cleaners.

Storage Wisdom

During off-seasons, store leather in a breathable cotton garment bag—never plastic, which traps moisture. Stuff sleeves with acid-free tissue to maintain shape. Store in a cool, dry place with consistent temperature.

Conditioning

Once or twice annually, apply a premium leather conditioner. Test in an inconspicuous area first. Apply sparingly with a soft cloth using circular motions, then allow to absorb overnight. This prevents drying and cracking while maintaining suppleness.

Professional Care

For deep cleaning or stain removal, always consult a leather specialist. Our atelier offers complimentary lifetime maintenance for all The Leather Base pieces—simply schedule an appointment at any flagship location.

Weather Protection

While our leather is treated for water resistance, avoid prolonged exposure to rain. If wet, blot gently with a soft towel and air dry at room temperature. Never use heat sources like hairdryers.

With proper care, your leather jacket will develop a distinguished patina, telling the story of your adventures while remaining as functional as the day it was crafted.
